The road less traveled is often the most rewarding, but, why is it the one that most people are not willing to take?
If you take ‘the road less traveled’ it means that you are acting independently, and that you are willing to do what others are not, in order to reach a certain destination in life. It means that you are willing to sacrifice what others won’t, such as your time and effort, or money, in order to achieve the outcomes that you desire.
Basically, by taking the road less traveled, you are making your own decisions and doing things differently from those who choose to take “the road more often traveled.”
However, sometimes taking the road less traveled can be extremely difficult and is not always the best choice, usually, because of the effort and the risk involved. And, it might even be better to just follow the road more often traveled.
Read this poem called “The Road Less Taken” by Robert Frost…
THE ROAD LESS TAKEN
“TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”
So How Do You Know Which Road to Take?
Knowing which road to take just depends on the situation and the circumstances. If others are already having success, and getting the same results that you want, with the road more often traveled, then why would go out and attempt to create a new path?
Why re-invent the wheel?
Just do what others are doing to have success and better their lives!
Now, if you find it difficult to decide which road to take, the best thing you can do is assess the situation for possible advantages or disadvantages.
What are the possible risks and the possible benefits that you may encounter with either road?
Look for the more efficient method of doing things and go for it!
Just remember, no matter what road you take, “nothing is guaranteed.”
